FIG partners with Fujitsu and Acer Medical to promote healthy ageing through AI-powered gymnastics app
The International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) has announced a groundbreaking collaboration with Fujitsu and Acer Medical to develop an innovative, AI-driven health insurance concept designed to promote preventative care and healthy ageing.
The partnership — unveiled during the 53rd Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Jakarta — combines sport, technology and healthcare in a unique way to encourage senior citizens to stay active through digitalised gymnastics programmes.
Promoting active ageing through innovation
Through its Measures for Aging Society Working Group (ASWG), FIG has long been committed to improving the wellbeing of older adults. The new initiative builds on this foundation, digitising FIG’s gymnastics programme for seniors into a smartphone app developed by Acer Medical, using Fujitsu’s advanced skeleton recognition AI technology.
The app, known as aiGait powered by Uvance, captures and analyses users’ movements through their phone camera, assessing muscle strength, balance, and range of motion. Based on each individual’s performance, the app recommends tailored exercise routines to prevent frailty and encourage long-term mobility.
“Through this collaboration, we want to promote healthy ageing and contribute to extending healthy life expectancy through sport,” FIG said in its announcement. “Gymnastics is one of the most effective lifelong physical activities for maintaining mobility, balance, and wellbeing, and digital innovation allows us to make these benefits accessible to more people.”

From exercise to insurance
What makes the project truly pioneering is its integration of health data with insurance incentives. The partners are developing a points-based health-promotion insurance model that rewards users for their activity and participation in regular health checks.
Exercise assessments and engagement metrics from the app will be converted into reward points, which can then be exchanged for insurance premium discounts or other benefits. The approach aims to shift the insurance industry’s focus from treatment to prevention, incentivising healthy behaviour rather than simply covering medical costs.
Participating insurance companies will be announced at a later stage, but the concept is already drawing attention for its potential to link sport, AI, and public health policy in innovative ways.
Global collaboration for a healthier future
For Fujitsu, the partnership is part of its wider Uvance business model, which focuses on using data, AI, and co-creation with partners to address major social challenges.
“Under Uvance, we aim to co-create advanced health management services powered by decision intelligence and data,” Fujitsu said. “This collaboration allows us to apply our AI technologies to promote wellbeing and address the challenges of ageing societies.”

Meanwhile, Acer Medical is enhancing its AI system to detect subtle gait abnormalities that can indicate early-stage health conditions. Its goal is to transform simple daily movements — such as standing, sitting, and walking — into clinical insights that can help doctors and caregivers intervene earlier.
“By integrating AI with real-world movement, we can help identify risks before they become serious,” said Acer Medical. “Our mission is to make preventive medicine and smart healthcare accessible to everyone.”

FIG’s contribution to global health
The initiative also supports the World Health Organization’s Global Action Plan on Dementia (2017–2025), by promoting physical activity as a key component of cognitive and physical health in older adults. With more than 30 million participants in FIG’s Gymnastics for All programme worldwide, the federation hopes this model will help embed sport-based health management into everyday life.
“Gymnastics has always been about movement, discipline, and balance. Now, through technology, it can also be a tool for prevention, wellbeing, and a sustainable future of healthy ageing.”
As societies around the world age, FIG’s partnership with Fujitsu and Acer Medical represents a forward-thinking example of how sport can serve public health — blending AI technology, data insights, and physical activity to create a model for healthier, longer lives.
“Gymnastics has always been about movement, discipline, and balance,” FIG concluded. “Now, through technology, it can also be a tool for prevention, wellbeing, and a sustainable future of healthy ageing.”
