Influencing the future: how high-profile individuals can drive climate action

Wednesday 24 June – 11:00 – 12:30 BST
Toynbee Hall, London, England

Oxford Climate Leadership Research Centre and Sport Positive present: Influencing the future: how high-profile individuals can drive climate action

In an era of “greenhushing,” when many choose silence over scrutiny, climate leadership matters more than ever.

High-profile voices can bring much-needed attention to the climate crisis, but stepping into that role isn’t simple. Do climate advocates need to be experts? Should they live perfectly sustainable lives? And how do they navigate potential conflicts tied to sponsorships, business, or politics?

When speaking up can feel like a minefield, how do we encourage more people (famous or not) to champion a healthier relationship with the planet?

Make It Feel Real. Sport, story, and getting people to care about the things that matter.

Wednesday, June 24 – 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM BST
Protein Studios Shoreditch, London, England

On Wednesday 24 June, New Season is hosting Make It Feel Real, a conversation at London Climate Action Week in partnership with Blue Earth.

It’s all about sport, story, and getting people to care about the things that matter.

The line-up:

• Rishi Jain, Director of Impact at Liverpool Football Club
• Lesley Sackey, the first British woman to win EU boxing gold, and founder of Fight Forward
• Nadeem Perera, football coach, wildlife TV presenter and co-founder of Flock Together
• Hugo Inglis OLY, four-time Olympian, IOC Climate Action Award winner and co-founder of High Impact Athletes

The conversation starts with climate, because that’s the week, then opens up to how sport engages its fans on the things they care about, and turns shared passion into action.

New Season is also launching new research into what more than 500 UK sports fans really think when sustainability turns up in sport, what they’re not seeing, and the commercial case for doing more.

Hosted by James Rigby, founder of New Season. If you work across sport, climate or culture, it’s one to be in the room for.

From Grassroots to Governance: Sport Sustainability from a Nature Lens

Thu, Jun 25, 2026, 4:00 PM – 5:00 PM BST

Online

“From Grassroots to Governance: Sport Sustainability from a Nature Lens,” features Olympic Gold Medallist Imogen Grant MBE, renowned for her clean-water advocacy, alongside sports data pioneer Mike Laflin, Founder of Global Sustainable Sport.

Hosted by Kishan Changlani, the event marks a major strategic pivot beyond basic recycling schemes, exploring why sports organisations must look “beyond the plastic straw” to integrate high-level climate and biodiversity policies into their core governance. It will also address the tension between the athlete voice and institutional silence, examining how elite athletes are stepping up to defend the natural spaces we play in and how federations can better back their activism.
