The Impact League is the sailing series’ ‘podium for the planet’ which tracks the positive actions made by teams and athletes to reduce their overall carbon footprint.

Joining the panel are Kelly Simmons, former Director of the Women’s Professional Game at the English Football Association; Ellen Jones, Head of ESG at Formula 1; Sanjay Bhandari, Chair of inclusion charity Kick it Out, and Ryan Storr, Australian-based Co-Founder of the LGBTIQ+ sport charity Proud2Play.

They join the likes of Arizona Cardinals star Kelvin Beachum, Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary General Rachel Kite, and motorsport driver Jamie Chadwick.

The Impact League runs alongside the Season Championship, with the winner earning funds for their chosen purpose partner.

The league’s aim is to embed sustainability action within sport, and 80% of SailGP athletes feel the Impact League has changed the way they behaved. Some two-thirds also said that the league had the potential to change the mindsets of fans on sustainability.

“The collective of sport has an unparalleled platform to inspire fans to take action which is why I’m so excited to be part of this caliber of judges,” Simmons said.

“I love the Impact League concept that brings out the competitive nature of athletes and shows how small actions can have a big impact. It’s great to be part of this initiative that pushes the boundaries and sets new standards for sustainability in sport.”
