The Revolution Will Be Reused: How Kit Revolution is Tackling Sport’s Cost and Waste Crisis
In the world of sustainable sport, the focus is often on mega-events, stadium builds, and global supply chains. Yet, one of the most significant barriers to participation, and one of the greatest sources of waste, is sitting in our own homes.
In communities across the UK, cupboards are filled with barely worn sports gear. Simultaneously, families are facing stark choices, with the rising price of essentials becoming a critical barrier to participation. Statistics from 2024 paint a sobering picture: 87% of families state kit costs limit participation, and 74% report that lacking the right kit makes young people less likely to join in.
This creates a dual crisis: a social one, where people are priced out of the sports they love, and an environmental one, with an estimated 100,000 tonnes of sportswear sent to UK landfill annually.
A new platform, Kit Revolution, is tackling this disconnect head-on. Speaking with Global Sustainable Sport (GSS), founder Claire Moffat explained her journey from frustrated parent to a circular economy pioneer.
“No one should be priced out of sport because of kit... We’re helping people see that reusing kit isn’t second best — it’s a powerful act of inclusion and sustainability.”
From Parental Frustration to a Platform for Change
Like many of the best ideas, Kit Revolution was born from personal experience.
Claire, a parent with over 20 years’ experience in digital marketing became “acutely aware of the accumulation of kit that children have”. She saw households full of good-quality, barely-used items that children had quickly outgrown, with no clear system for passing them on.
“Initially, the platform was born as Kidd3r, with the primary focus of it just being supporting children,” Claire told GSS.
But after securing investment late last year, the ambition grew. The platform was rebranded and rebuilt to be “bolder, punchier”, expanding to support all age groups and all sporting disciplines. The new “Kit Revolution” was born, moving to a highly scalable “headless CMS” to future-proof its growth.

More Than a Marketplace: How It Works
What makes Kit Revolution different is that it’s not just another resale site; it’s a purpose-built movement for sport. Claire’s team has focused obsessively on the user experience, adopting what she described as an “Amazon three-click mentality” to make reusing and rehoming kit as quick and simple as possible.
The platform is built on three core actions:
Sell: Users can sell an item and retain 100% of the value.
Swap: A unique, UK-first function that promotes access and affordability.
Donate: In a brilliant move, users can choose to list an item for sale and donate the proceeds directly to one of the platform’s charity partners. In this model, 75% of the transaction value is automatically diverted to the charity.
To build confidence, the platform has integrated Stripe’s escrow system, holding funds until the buyer confirms safe receipt of the item. A £10 minimum item value helps maintain Kit Revolution’s focus on quality, ensuring the platform showcases premium, pre-loved sports kit and apparel that people are proud to use again.
Building a Movement Through Partnership
A great platform is only part of the solution; real change requires a movement. This is where Kit Revolution is truly gaining momentum.
Kit Revolution has been confirmed as a Circular Economy Partner within the Global Sustainable Sport (GSS) Alliance, providing international visibility for their vital work.
This builds on a raft of strategic UK-based collaborations. Kit Revolution has established formal charity partnerships with Fair Game and Sported, one of the UK’s largest sport-for-development charities, alongside Active Partnerships Lancashire, with a pilot project planned for Lancashire.
Together, these partnerships reflect the breadth of Kit Revolution’s mission — from driving systemic change within sport’s governing structures to supporting the grassroots clubs at the heart of local communities.
Niall Couper, CEO of Fair Game, shared his enthusiasm for the partnership:
“Football has a unique power to lead social and environmental change. Through our partnership with Kit Revolution, we’re creating a simple, measurable way for clubs, players, and fans to make a real difference. Every item of kit reused or donated helps to make football more accessible and affordable. This partnership shows that meaningful change doesn’t always start at the top—it starts in communities. Together, we can put integrity, sustainability, and fairness back at the heart of the game.”

Mark Woods, Head of Communications at Sported, said:
“It’s vital everyone gets an opportunity to play sport, but we recognise the barriers that exist. Sported’s network of amazing grassroots clubs transforms lives and strengthens their local communities, often in challenging conditions. That’s why we are partnering with Kit Revolution to make it easier to take part with a simple, powerful way to turn unused kit into opportunity. Together, we’re making sport more inclusive, lowering costs for families, and building healthier communities and more sustainable local groups where no one is left on the sidelines.”
Perhaps most exciting is the platform’s work with National Governing Bodies (NGBs). Kit Revolution is finalising a Statement of Work with British Triathlon to launch a dedicated, co-branded microsite. This will provide a tailored environment for their members to exchange kit, serving as a flagship model that can be replicated for other NGBs and clubs.

The Future: Growing the Revolution
Claire Moffat is clear-eyed about the road ahead. She views 2025 as the “build phase”, while 2026 will be all about growth. The key challenge is building a “critical mass” of kit on the platform to ensure users find what they need.
To accelerate this, Kit Revolution is actively seeking new partnerships with National Governing Bodies, brands and community organisation that share its vision for a more inclusive and sustainable future in sport.
With volume comes the ability to deliver robust, detailed impact measurement—both environmentally (CO₂ saved) and socially (funds raised, individuals supported).
"This isn’t just about kit. It’s about social inclusion, environmental action and keeping people in the sports they love. Kit Revolution is leading that change."
Kit Revolution is a perfect example of the practical, scalable infrastructure the sports sector needs. It proves that we can unite the challenges of participation, social inclusion, and environmental waste into one powerful, community-driven solution.
As noted by GSS’s Mike Laflin, “This isn’t just about kit. It’s about social inclusion, environmental action and keeping people in the sports they love. Kit Revolution is leading that change.”
