Roger de Moraes (58) holds a Ph.D. in Biological Sciences from the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation, specializing in the exploration of socio-environmental determinants of health. As a professor of Physiology in higher education and a speaker on ecosystem functions at high schools, he currently serves as the coordinator of the Microcirculation Laboratory within the Hypertension Program at the Clementino Fraga Filho Hospital of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. At the Department of Physiology and Pharmacodynamics of the Oswaldo Cruz Institute, he led investigations for 17 years into the vascular effects of chronic aerobic exercise, and authored numerous articles in this field.
A trailblazer in the Triathlon scene in Brazil, he clinched championship titles and set records in the sport during the 1980s, garnering international recognition as the South American representative of the esteemed Belgian team, “Winning.” Since then, he has transitioned into coaching young talents and advocating for biopsychosocial well-being through sports. Over the past 3 years, he has spearheaded efforts to organize the “Race for the Amazon” and implement associated socio-environmental initiatives.
