Session 2 – Fan Travel – The ‘Elephant in the Room’
Join Chloe Sweden, Founder & CEO, Lowr and Alex Townshend, Sustainability Consultant, You Smart Thing for an insightful discussion on the ‘Elephant in the Room’ – Fan Travel, moderated by Rory Squires, CEO of Squires Media. With over 60% of sports club’s carbon emissions coming indirectly from fans, teams have a huge problem. They currently have no way of measuring or managing their footprints easily or accurately.
The discussion will incude;
Awareness of the problem: Increasingly, major events and venues are recognising audience travel as a key ESG challenge. For example, analysis of the T20 Finals Day 2022 at Edgbaston found that 79% of emissions were caused by staff and spectator travel
Sustainability and accessibility as business critical: Offering reliable, low-carbon travel for spectators, athletes, games officials, and people with specific accessibility requirements, should be seen as business-critical for host cities, rights holders and organisers, not as a tick box exercise
Power of Data: Data is essential to measure and understand audience behaviour. Organisations need to understand current behaviours to execute initiatives and reduce environmental impact.
Introduction to Lowr: Lowr is the world’s first white-labelled sustainability platform for teams to log and lower their fan emissions, whilst increasing revenue from sponsors looking to promote their own green agenda.
Introduction to ‘You. Smart. Thing.’ (YST): ‘You. Smart. Thing.’ (YST) is designed to reduce disproportionate travel-related carbon emissions. To successfully deploy the YST travel assistant service, customers need to effectively engage their audiences with the technology to affect behaviour change, capture data, and reduce disproportionate travel-related carbon emissions. YST customers have access to an analytics suite of data captured through the travel assistant service
