Following the success of our GSSport 2024 programme, Global Sustainable Sport is excited to launch GSS2025 – an evolved, fully online workshop series designed to engage, inspire, and support the global sport community on its journey to a more sustainable future.
In 2024, we welcomed sport organisations from around the world to take part in our interactive, online workshop programme. We explored key themes from environmental sustainability to governance, equality, community engagement, the athlete voice, and the power of partnerships. The insights shared and connections made were invaluable, creating a strong foundation for what comes next.
In 2025, we’re going further.
GSS2025 will offer a monthly series of online workshops, each tackling a specific aspect of sustainability in sport. By offering a fully online programme, we’re making it easier than ever for sport organisations and stakeholders of all sizes – from local clubs to international federations – to take part, regardless of geography or resources.
Whether you’re just starting your sustainability journey or looking to deepen your impact, GSS2025 offers a valuable opportunity to connect with peers, stay ahead of emerging trends, and be part of a global movement driving change in sport.
Join us on 22 May 2025 and be part of the conversation shaping the future of sustainable sport.
Global Sustainable Sport (GSS) third workshop of its GSS2025 Workshop Series will take place on Thursday, 30 September 2025 at 10:00 BST. The workshop is free to attend.
Poor air quality is linked to eight million premature deaths worldwide each year, with significant impacts on health and the global economy. While policies have reduced some pollutants in some places, progress is uneven, most countries do not meet global guidelines, and inequalities persist. The World Health Organization’s roadmap seeks to halve health impacts by 2040, alongside the revised EU air quality law and an updated Gothenburg Protocol.
In recent years, sport has felt these effects: cricket Tests and tennis matches disrupted by smoke in India and Australia; MLB and WNBA fixtures cancelled because of wildfires in Canada and the United States; and runners withdrawing from marathons in China due to ‘hazardous’ air.
To mark the International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies, Global Sustainable Sport, in collaboration with Air Aware Labs, will host the third GSS2025 workshop on 30 September: “Racing towards clean air – how high can sports aim?”
Moderator Mike Laflin, CEO and Founder of Global Sustainable Sport, will be joined by Louise Thomas, CEO and co-founder of Air Aware Labs. Additional speakers will be announced in the coming weeks.
Global Sustainable Sport (GSS) second workshop of its GSS2025 Workshop Series will take place on Thursday, 19 June 2025 at 10:00 BST. The workshop is free to attend.
Titled “Who is Driving Sustainability in the Premier League? How Sustainable is English Football?”, this session will showcase ground-breaking research by GSS using its AI-driven sustainability assessment tool. The tool applies GSS’s proprietary 7 Sustainable Pillars of Sport framework to provide unique insights into which clubs are genuinely sustainable across all seven pillars.
The research will be presented by Mike Laflin, CEO and Founder of Global Sustainable Sport, and he will be joined by Mark Doidge, Reader in the School of Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences, Loughborough University and Niall Couper, CEO, Fair Game UK.
English football is one of the world’s most popular and commercially successful sports, but how sustainable is it? And who is really driving change?
GSS’s latest research explores the state of sustainability across the Premier League and the wider English football ecosystem. It analyses the roles of key actors — clubs, leagues, sponsors, players, and fans — identifying where leadership is emerging and where major gaps remain.
Join us for this GSS2025 online workshop as we present our findings and spark a timely discussion on the future of sustainability in English football. The session will explore:
Whether you work in football, sustainability, sponsorship, media, or research, this is a must-attend event for anyone interested in the future of the beautiful game.
