World Sailing sets course for the future with latest strategy
World Sailing has launched its new strategy ‘Ready for the Future’ focused on four key priorities for the sport: events and commercial, growth, governance and impact.
The events and commercial pillar will look at growing the audience for sailing while generating new revenue, which can be invested back into the development of the sport. The organisation will embrace digital technologies to help deliver world-class sailing events. The growth section will see World Sailing work with its National Federations, Classes and Continental Associations to provide more opportunities for people to reach their potential through sailing.
As part of its commitment to good governance, World Sailing will implement its newly transformed governance model which will enable the organisation to operate efficiently, transparently and collaboratively.
The impact pillar relates to a number of areas including economic, environmental and social impact.
"As the leaders of our sport, we have an obligation to decide where we will concentrate our efforts to have the greatest impact."
Speaking at the Yacht Racing Forum in Amsterdam last week, World Sailing Chief Executive David Graham said: “Like a sailor, the federation needs a chart to navigate the right course. As the leaders of our sport, we have an obligation to decide where we will concentrate our efforts to have the greatest impact.
“This strategy will provide guidance and direction to our work as well as clarity for our stakeholders – our national federations, our classes, and everyone involved in sailing.
“By pursuing the priorities outlined in Ready for the Future, we will ensure World Sailing is ready to take advantage of the opportunities ahead of us whilst being ready for the challenges as we move into the middle decades of the 21st century.”
The strategy will focus on the years 2025 to 2029.
