Wolfsburg reveals sustainable innovations in progress report
VfL Wolfsburg has adopted innovative solutions and comprehensive measures to improve its sustainability, according to a new report from the German Bundesliga football club.
The 2022 edition of Wolfsburg’s Sustainability Report outlined several steps taken with the support of partners, including CO2 transparency in the online shop and filter solutions for microplastics on artificial pitches.
The club said that all such measures and projects would be presented under a new title: ‘Tomorrow together. One team. Many goals.’
Wolfsburg has been reporting on its sustainable steps for the past 10 years, based on the guidelines of the Global Reporting Initiative.
This is the sixth edition of the report, covering the 2020-21 and 2021-22 seasons.
“Sustainability is not only one of the major challenges facing society, but also a central issue for us,” said VfL managing director Michael Meeske.
“It’s a strategic driver for our entire organisation, above all around environmental sustainability, but also with the aspect of diversity, which we feel closely connected to.
“Furthermore, we want to create not only emotional but also practical added value with the broad commitment to the people in the region and within the framework of our ‘Tomorrow together’ approach. We’re therefore looking forward to the future and will push this issue with full force.”
In congratulating Wolfsburg on reaching the 10-year milestone, Marc Lenz, Member of the Executive Board and Director of Corporate Strategy and International Affairs at the DFL, Germany’s football league operator, said: “Sustainability is a central component of our overall strategy. As such, it requires very good cooperation between the DFL and the clubs, and strong clubs that play a part in shaping this are very important.”
