WM nets sustainability partnership with Cleveland Cavaliers, Monsters
Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse, the National Basketball Association’s (NBA) Cleveland Cavaliers and American Hockey League (AHL) team Cleveland Monsters have collaborated with WM to enhance sustainability practices throughout Northeast Ohio.
WM is a provider of comprehensive environmental solutions, and is one of the largest recycling businesses in North America. The business will support all three organisations in developing their environmental sustainability visions and strategies.
In September last year, WM opened a state-of-the-art, single-stream recycling facility in Cleveland with a price tag of $30m. It is capable of processing up to 144,000 tonnes of recyclable material annually.
“We are excited to have the opportunity to partner with WM to advance our current sustainability efforts and find additional ways to make a positive impact on the environment,” commented Antony Bonavita, Executive Vice President, and Chief Venues and Development Officer for Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse and the Cleveland Cavaliers.
“With WM’s support, we hope to enhance our data collection and benchmarking, set and meet our sustainability goals, manage materials and operations across our organisation and, most importantly, support and educate our fans and team members in their own sustainability practices.”

The collaboration will see a number of activations that will benefit Cavaliers and Monsters fans with the goal of promoting recycling.
‘Will it Recycle?’ is an annual campaign from WM which aims to encourage recycling. Fans will be able to compete in a timeout promotion during select Cavaliers and Monsters games for a chance to win a trip to PGA Tournament event, the WM Phoenix Open.
The WM Member Seat, an up-cycled dumpster converted into a couch, will be unveiled during the opening home games for both the Cavaliers and the Monsters. Throughout the coming seasons, the teams will pick two fans to be the WM Members of the Game, upgrading their seats to the up-cycled sofa.
Additionally, the Cavaliers, Monsters and WM will partner on a limited-edition merchandise drop at the team shop at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse that will include up-cycled and sustainably sourced items.
