The Carbon Literacy Sports Kit: Game-changing training

October 30 2023

On Tuesday 21st November, The Carbon Literacy Project is hosting a free webinar for people in the sports sector who are interested in the Sports Kit. Join us to learn about how you can access the Sports Kit, how it can be used, and to hear from people currently delivering Carbon Literacy training in the sector.

The Carbon Literacy Sports Kit: Game-changing training

With billions of people engaging yearly as employees, players or fans, the sports sector has incredible influence globally. Encompassing elite sports, grassroots sports, and everything in between, the sector also has a significant carbon footprint. Harnessing the influence of the sector whilst reducing its carbon footprint would together have a massive positive impact.

The Carbon Literacy Project has developed the Sports Kit to empower sports organisations and clubs of all sizes to be a part of this positive sea-change – by ensuring they can confidently speak about climate change, understand their carbon emissions, and take action. The Sports Kit is a ready-to-use, customisable training package, providing all the materials for a full day’s climate training for your people.

The Carbon Literacy Sports Kit was launched in April 2023 at the BASIS Conference in Bristol. Since then, interest in using the Kit has been high, with sports organisations and clubs at all levels and in numerous countries accessing the materials and gearing up to deliver training.

The Sports Kit was developed alongside staff from the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games organising committee with additional support from UK Sport and BASIS. On 21st November, we will be joined in conversation by representatives from these three organisations, as well as individuals from Birmingham County Football Association and Community Leisure UK, who are currently delivering Carbon Literacy in the sector. We’ll hear about the value of the training and the ways that different organisations are approaching training rollout.

We’ll also cover the details of how to access the Sports Kit and how it can be used, as well as some details on future plans for this project. This event is open to and will be useful for people who are completely new to Carbon Literacy and those who are already engaged.
