Taking the wheel: LFP continues carpooling encouragement
Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP), the operating body of most football leagues in France including the top two tiers, has extended its collaboration with StadiumGO with the aim of reducing emissions from fan travel.
StadiumGO is a service that allows fans of Ligue 1 and 2 clubs to find other fans that would like to share lifts to stadiums, reducing environmental impact. The platform has partnered with LFP for the last five seasons.
Spectator transport represents more than 60% of the carbon footprint of a match, according to figures from the Shift Project’s ‘Décarbonons les Stades’ report from March 2024. LFP organised the second edition of a national campaign to communicate the importance of sustainable mobility.
Eighty-two percent of professional clubs in France now offer a carpooling solution to their supporters, with more than 75% turning to StadiumGO thanks to a deal signed with LFP in 2019.
At the end of the 2023-24 season, 12 Ligue 1 and 17 Ligue 2 clubs had collaborated with StadiumGO, and nearly 25,000 supporters utilised the platform. This is an increase of 37% compared to the 2022-23 season, and 986,000 kilometres were covered by carpooling.
Last month, LFP published its eighth report around its environmental and social sustainability efforts.
