Nine social enterprises will benefit from grants dished out by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), through its Olympism365 Innovation Hub. The grants are designed to support social enterprises – businesses that generate profit to fund social initiatives – that are working on sport-for-development projects.
ABN AMRO Bank has launched a new initiative to support partner hockey clubs in their efforts to become more environmentally sustainable. The bank has designed a document for hockey clubs to serve as a guide to aid progress over the next five years.
Formula E has revealed the first beneficiary of the Season 11 Better Futures Fund. Associação PiPA is focused on educating young people in the Brazilian city of São Paulo. The €25,000 funding will support the organisation’s ‘The Future Today’ project in Peri Alto, which provides weekly socio-emotional and educational activities for children between the ages of 7-12.
The World Netball Foundation recently organised a coaching clinic for its Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) partner, Maitrayana, at the Asia Netball Championships. Maitrayana utilises the power of netball to help girls learn about their rights, build leadership skills and reach their full potential. While in India, on behalf of the World Netball Foundation, the organisation’s Head of Events Kate Agnew ran a two-day coaching clinic for Maitrayana’s young coaches.
The Bahrain International Circuit has received Three-Star Environmental Accreditation from governing body, the FIA. The FIA’s accreditation programme was launched in 2011 and is split across three tiers, with the Three-Star level awarded to those that demonstrate best practice and commitment to achieving continued improvement.
The recent World Leagues Association (WLA) annual general meeting, which was held in Cairo for the first time, saw a number of representatives from the progressional leagues discuss the challenges of African football. Leagues include the Egyptian Pro League, the South African Premier Soccer League, the Uganda Premier League, the Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League and the Nigerian Premier Football League. Further representatives present included the President and General Secretary of FIFPRO Africa.
The Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) recently hosted the annual UCI Women’s WorldTour and UCI WorldTour Seminar in Nice, France on November 25-26. The seminar brought together the different stakeholders of the cycling series for women’s and men’s professional road racing.
In 2023, 9.7 million bicycles were produced in the European Union, a 24% decrease in bicycle production compared to 2022 (12.7m). Cycling is an eco-friendly and health-conscious mode of transportation.
Major International Floorball Federation (IFF) tournaments are played on sport flooring provided by its official supplier, Gerflor. Its latest Taraflex floor offering is its most sustainable yet, boasting a warranty of 15 years. It is made from 81% bio-sourced, mineral, and recycled raw materials. It also has a 43% smaller carbon footprint than its predecessor.
The International Skating Union (ISU) has published a new set of Sustainability Guidelines as part of its Sustainability Strategy and wider ISU Vision 2030 programme. The framework aims to advance environmental and social responsibility principles across all ISU events.
