The National Basketball Association (NBA) team and its home stadium have joined the ‘Greener Life for Business’ programme, which will see Georgia Natural Gas calculate the level of greenhouse gases released from State Farm Arena’s natural gas usage. The Atlanta-based company will then retire carbon offsets to balance 100% of those emissions, supporting the venue’s efforts in further reducing its carbon footprint.

The Hawks’ Head of Sustainability Sofi Armenian explained: “Sustainability is part of the Atlanta Hawks DNA within State Farm Arena, and our new partnership with Georgia Natural Gas will help us continue on our forever journey to be more sustainable.

“This partnership enables us to tackle climate change through a meaningful collaboration." The Hawks’ Head of Sustainability Sofi Armenian

“This partnership enables us to tackle climate change through a meaningful collaboration, offsetting natural gas emissions to prove that sport and sustainability can coexist.”

State Farm Arena’s use of offsets will comply with the protocol related to the credible use and public reporting related to offsets, including accurate measurement of the venue’s gas emissions, authentic reduction efforts and the development of plan that will help move towards fewer emissions.
