San Francisco 49ers franchise reveals ‘Faithful to the Planet’ initiative
The San Francisco 49ers American football franchise has announced its ‘Faithful to the Planet’ initiative, a charitable enterprise led by the National Football League’s (NFL) corporate partnership department and number of the team’s partners.
Partners will be able to choose to be part of the programme, before selecting one of three environmentally focused projects for the 49ers to make a donation towards on the partner’s behalf.
‘Faithful to the Plant’ was launched with the help of partners including Cadence, Levi’s, Pepsi, SAP, SunPower, Toyota and United. Charitable giving will be powered by Dollar Donation Club.
Projects include Save the Redwoods League, which is aiming to protect and restore California’s coast redwood and giant sequoia forests; Plastic Fischer, which deploys floating barriers to collect plastic waste in rivers; and Trees for the Future, which helps sub-Saharan farms restore soil nutrients and plant trees to provide food.
"Over the past several years, many of our corporate partners have expressed an interest in getting involved with our organisation’s sustainability efforts."
Kevin Hilton, 49ers Vice-President of Corporate Partnerships, said: “Faithful to the Planet showcases the 49ers continued commitment to a more sustainable future and better planet for everyone. Over the past several years, many of our corporate partners have expressed an interest in getting involved with our organisation’s sustainability efforts. We created this program as a way to harness that interest and use it to create a lasting impact on the environment.”
Seth Blaustein, Founder and Chief Executive at Dollar Donation Club, added: “The 49ers have passionately selected underdog environmental projects that are proven to make a measurable difference, while also harnessing the power of collective giving. ‘Faithful to the Planet’ demonstrates the 49ers’ leadership in sports sustainability, and we’re incredibly proud to be a partner.”
