Minnesota Twins hit sustainability home run with GOAL medals
Major League Baseball’s Minnesota Twins were recently awarded 29 ‘GOAL Medals’ recognising the organisation’s dedication to advancing environmental, social and governance (ESG) objectives.
GOAL stands for ‘Green Operations & Advanced Leadership’, and is a sustainability-driven membership and support network for sports, entertainment and live event venues.
The Twins were awarded the medals during GOAL’s first annual Venue & Event All Stars Awards ceremony in Phoenix, Arizona earlier this week. The Twins became a GOAL member in 2023 to advance the organisation’s sustainability efforts at home ballpark Target Field, as well as community impact.
During its first year of membership, Minnesota has been awarded gold, silver or bronze GOAL medal status across 29 categories.
“We are proud to accept these honours, but are far more excited about what they represent – a recognition that, in this critical time, our organisation continues pushing toward new paths of environmental stewardship and fostering belonging,” said Twins President and Chief Executive, Dave St. Peter.

“Now is the time to challenge ourselves to ensure Target Field remains the ‘Greenest Ballpark in America’ and that we are playing an active role in shaping equitable, empathetic and connected communities. We look forward to continued engagement with GOAL as we work to build a better tomorrow for all.”
Within the gold classification, the Twins received medals for the likes of increased waste diversion by recycling and composting; an increase in energy efficiency; the creation of an inclusive workplace for diversity; measuring and reporting on waste water; reusing non-potable water and more.
The Twins were also praised in the silver category for the franchise’s support and prioritisation of electric vehicles (EVs); building a sustainability strategy and setting goals; and providing accessible water for hydration, among others.
Additionally, the bronze category highlighted the efforts around creating a circularity programme; measuring and reporting greenhouse gas emissions; engaging digital followers; offering staff sustainability training; reducing the quantity of total waste and more.
