Leicester Nirvana advances sustainability journey with latest report
Leicester Nirvana, a grassroots football club located in the heart of England, has launched its latest report: ‘Embedding Sustainable Development Goals in Grassroots Football’.
Those that run the club feel that the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are the best framework for building a better future, and have worked hard (and continue to do so) to embed sustainability into the club.
As part of its commitment to sustainability, Leicester Nirvana’s ambitions will contribute towards the SDGs across its three change ambitions: A culture of sustainability, cost-of-living, and resilience and empowerment.
The culture of sustainability pillar will see Leicester Nirvana review its practices, process and policies to include sustainability; its cost-of-living goal will support members and communities with socio-economic factors that may exclude them from living a balance lifestyle; and resilience and empowerment will see the club support communities to be resilient in the face of adversity.
Elsewhere, the report details its ambition and progress towards becoming the first net zero grassroots football club in the UK.
Leicester Nirvana also became an official member of the United Nations Football for the Goals campaign, which engages with football stakeholders to leverage the reach of football and the sport’s global footprint in advancing sustainability, equality, human rights and climate action.
Additionally, Leicester Nirvana wrote to the United Nations Academic Impact Initiative (UNAI) SDG Hub based at De Montfort University in Leicester, to establish a partnership to advance its sustainable practices.
Not only is the club focused on environmental sustainability, but also the breaking down of barriers for women and minority groups.
