Kane backs sustainable sportswear brand
Sustainable performance-wear brand Reflo has raised roughly £1m (€1.2m/$1.3m) during a recent funding round, with England and Bayern Munich footballer Harry Kane as the lead investor.
Reflo was set up in 2021 and specialises in creating sustainable golf apparel, but also caters for the likes of gym-goers, runners and tennis players.
The company’s performance wear is mostly made from recycled polyester, derived from single-use plastic waste. This means that the fabrics used in products require up to 50% less energy to create, producing 70% less carbon than virgin polyester, while no new oil is used.
The funding will be used to support Reflo’s production and business operations, with a focus on material sourcing, production factory choices and building its team of staff.
Kane has previously worn the brand playing golf at the Icons Series in 2022, and will now become a Reflo ambassador.
Additionally, the brand says it has already funded the planting of over 42,000 trees and has recycled the equivalent of more than 500,000 plastic bottles. Reflo will also use the investment to continue its regeneration work alongside the likes of Ecology and Eden Reforestation Project. It has further pledged to plant 500 trees for every goal scored by Kane during the 2023-24 season.
“I’m thrilled to be joining the team here at Reflo. Their dedication to sustainability and performance in golf is inspiring, and perfectly aligns with everything that I believe in – both on and off the pitch,” said Kane.
“The right decisions when it comes to creating a sustainable legacy for my family are important, and having tried Reflo for over a year, I know how good they are, and I feel it is going to get bigger as we learn more about making performance-based apparel that is good for the environment.”
