ITTF integrates sustainability and gender equality into strategic plan
The International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) has incorporated new initiatives surrounding sustainability, gender and diversity into its strategic plan, following a meeting at the recent Singapore Smash 2023 tournament.
During the meeting, the Board validated a Sustainability Action Plan 2025 and outlined the steps that need to be taken in order to meet commitments. Its plan is based on the federation’s three Ps – People, Planet and Prosperity.
The goal is to inspire people within the table tennis community who will directly benefit from the plan’s effects, while also positively impacting the planet and achieving prosperity in the sport through supporting long-term economic growth.
Sustainability has also been acknowledged as a crucial part of the organisation’s strategic policies and will be added to the ITTF Strategic Plan 2025.
This new Strategic Plan will be circulated to Member Associations and submitted for approval at the annual General Meeting later this year. The plan outlines the vision, mission and goals, as well as the strategies that will be implemented to achieve them.
The Board also discussed a new initiative surrounding the promotion of gender equality, which was kickstarted by an earlier Gender and Diversity meeting in Durban, South Africa. The ITTF Group’s Gender and Diversity plan will guide future actions to ensure targets are met.
This plan includes specific actions to promote women’s leadership and gender equality across governance models, close the investment gap in women’s sports and provide equal economic and sporting opportunities for women and girls.
A baseline survey will also be distributed to all Member Associations and Continental Federations to gather input on gender and diversity issues within the sport and the organisation.
