Hockey Australia becomes Sports Environment Alliance member
Hockey Australia has become a member of the not-for-profit membership organisation Sports Environment Alliance (SEA), which aims to support the sports industry in becoming ‘environmental stewards’.
Hockey Australia is the national sporting organisation for hockey in the country, and recently published its first Climate Sustainability Strategy.
The strategy is dedicated to reducing the sport’s carbon footprint in Australia, and also includes the ambition to hit net-zero.
Melissa Gmeiner, Social Impact & Sustainability Manager at Hockey Australia, commented: “We will aim to reduce our carbon footprint, commit to net-zero targets, while leveraging our influence and platform to inspire climate action within the community.
“Partnering with organisations such as SEA will support Hockey Australia as well as the broader sporting industry to have impact and influence for a more sustainable future. Sustainability is identified as a key pillar of the Australian hockey whole of sport strategy.

“Our Climate Sustainability Strategy details immediate goals, while building a vision of what our sport will look like at the time of the Brisbane 2032 Games.”
Jan Fitzgerald, SEA Chief Executive, welcomed Hockey Australia as a member and said: “I am delighted to welcome Hockey Australia to Sports Environment Alliance. I applaud Hockey Australia’s environmental leadership, demonstrated through the launch of its Climate Sustainability Strategy.
“This aligns perfectly with our purpose at SEA to lead, educate and empower the sport ecosystem to take action for and influence a sustainable and regenerative future.
“Hockey Australia’s proactive approach sends a strong message that it understands the need to act, to ensure that the sports we love can continue to thrive into the future. We look forward to working with Hockey Australia to protect our places to play.”
