Formula E inspires young girls with STEM programme
Formula E’s FIA Girls on Track programme has recorded a 140% increase in participants for Season 9, as well as a 25% jump for the first two events of the current Season 10.
The Girls on Track initiative sees events delivered at races focused on engaging with girls between the ages of 12 and 18 at racetracks, while also offering talks at schools and universities.
Women working within the FIA Formula E World Championship guide the girls through sessions on STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) subjects, motorsport, sustainability and media. The participants have also had the opportunity to put their driving skills to the test on bespoke e-karting tracks or racing simulators.
“The growth of this leading programme has been incredible to see as young girls start to embrace and pursue opportunities around STEM education and motorsport,” said Julia Pallé, Vice-President of Sustainability at Formula E.

“Formula E is a pioneer in this space and acts as a genuine platform to upskill and educate girls, but most importantly giving them confidence to pursue their dreams and achieve great things within the motorsport sector.”
In December, it was announced that Formula E would extend its FIA Girls on Track scheme from five events to all races. Since the programme was implemented during Season 5, more than 2,000 young girls have benefitted, while some have even made their way into roles within the all-electric championship and motorsport.
