FIA links up with UN to promote sustainable sports tourism
The Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) has signed a new Memorandum of Understanding with UN Tourism to promote sustainability and the positive impacts more conscious travel can have on destinations.
Mohammed Ben Sulayem, president of the motorsports governing body, has been appointed as UN Tourism’s Ambassador for Sustainable Tourism in the Sport category.
The collaboration will also focus on advancing the understanding of sports tourism’s potential, which boasts an approximate value of $609bn and a 17.5% annual growth rate. The tourism and sport sectors are also closely linked via their impact both socially and culturally, and their roles in economic diversification and social development.
“This partnership with the UN is a testament to the FIA's unwavering commitment to sustainable tourism and social responsibility."
