EuroLeague Final Four promotes healthy and sustainable mobility
EuroLeague basketball fans will be able to help their team reach the top of one leaderboard by taking part in the Final Four Walking Challenge.
As the EuroLeague Final Four heads to Berlin, Germany, the competition will promote sustainable and healthy initiatives, such as the Final Four Walking Challenge. The theme is in partnership with mobility app Walk15, and follows on from last season’s Final Four challenge in Kaunas, Lithuania.
Last year’s Final Four saw 7,332 people participate in the Walking Challenge, resulting in 229,417,951 steps taken.
A separate challenge also involves biking, and the goal for both is to collect steps and kilometres that cover one full trip around the world; 40,000km for biking and 50 million steps for walking.
From May 24 to May 26 (the same weekend as the event), fans will be able to collectively help their team by selecting the Final Four Club they support, adding their steps together to hopefully reach the top of the standings. Alternatively, participants can join a general EuroLeague group to compete against the EuroLeague community.
Additionally, fans will battle it out individually for a range of prizes. The participant that has accumulated the most steps from each team in the walking challenge will win two tickets to attend a EuroLeague or BKT EuroCup game in the 2024-25 season. The individual that places second from each team will win one official jersey of a player from the 2023-24 campaign.
There will also be prizes for those competing in the biking challenge – five randomly picked participants that have biked 10km each day of the three-day Final Four period will receive a special merchandise item.
The initiative is to encourage fans in Berlin to foster sustainable mobility when moving between the Final Four venues, while also promoting healthy and environmentally friendly habits. For those that will be in Berlin for the competition, there will be exclusive walking and biking tracks inside the app to explore the city. More prizes will be available as part of a special contest that will see two winners in Berlin secure tickets to the 2025 EuroLeague FinalFour.
EuroLeague Basketball is aiming to support the Sustainable Development Goal 11 (SDG 11), titled ‘Sustainable Cities and Communities’.
