Eagles’ Lincoln Financial Field achieves LEED Platinum certification
Lincoln Financial Field, home of the Philadelphia Eagles NFL team, has been certified as a LEED Platinum building for its commitment to operational sustainability.
LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is developed by the US Green Building Council (USGBC), and is the most widely used green building rating system globally.
Lincoln Financial Field is one of only two previously constructed stadiums in the National Football League (NFL) to achieve Platinum status, which is the highest LEED certification. It is also the only NFL venue that is more than 10-years-old to obtain the rating.
Since opening in 2003, Lincoln Financial Field has earned three levels of accreditation from USGBC; achieving LEED Silver in 2013 and Gold in 2018 in the build up to Platinum in 2024.
The 67,594-capacity Lincoln Financial Field achieved LEED Platinum for implementing practical and measurable strategies across areas such as sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality.
“Earning LEED Platinum from the U.S. Green Building Council validates the hard work and dedication we put forth into being an environmentally responsible organisation."
The Eagles installed a hydrogen refuelling station, and Lincoln Financial Field became the first NFL stadium to recycle beverage containers through reverse vending machines. More than 10,000 solar panels have been installed, as well as water filtration fountains. Additionally, the organisation implemented a closed-loop recycling programme, achieved a 50% wattage reduction by replacing the stadium’s lights with LEDs, while also diverting 99% of waste from landfill and operating on 100% on clean energy.
“Earning LEED Platinum from the U.S. Green Building Council validates the hard work and dedication we put forth into being an environmentally responsible organisation,” said Jason Miller, Senior Vice President of Operations, Philadelphia Eagles.
“It starts at the top with Chairman and CEO Jeffrey Lurie and President Don Smolenski who continuously drive innovation with their thoughtful and progressive leadership style. We have always operated through the lens of sustainability, so it is rewarding that our efforts are being recognised in such a distinguished way.”
