Booth has more than a decade of experience in sustainability, having worked across various projects with major brands, including sportswear giant adidas.

“As leaders in their field, they (AEG Europe) understand the importance of taking a proactive role in introducing a sustainability strategy that sits at the heart of the business to drive the industry towards a more sustainable future, which is why I can’t wait to get stuck in and be a part of it,” Sam Booth, Sustainability Director, AEG Europe

Based in London, AEG Europe is a subsidiary of AEG, the global sports and live entertainment company.  In Europe, AEG’s portfolio of facilities includes The O2 in London, Barclays Arena in Hamburg, Mercedes Benz Arena in Berlin, and Accor Arena in Paris.

Late last year, the AEG Germany division announced that, from the start of 2023, a self-operated reusable cup system would be introduced at various venues, including the 17,000-capacity Mercedes-Benz Arena, which hosts ice hockey and basketball, among other sports.

The O2, which recently became the first venue in London to receive Greener Arena accreditation from A Greener Festival, has adopted a number of sustainable initiatives in recent months, including introducing recyclable paper cups and recycled PET fabric wristbands. The O2’s catering partner Levy has pledged to reach net zero at the venue by 2025.

“We entertain millions of fans across thousands of events annually and as such, we are acutely aware of our responsibility and take care to lead by example to ensure a sustainable industry and a healthier planet. John Langford, AEG Europe’s chief operating officer,
“Given Sam’s exceptional background in this field, we are so excited to have him join the team to focus on and lead the development of these plans.”

More than 80 sports and entertainment venues, teams and festivals worldwide track monthly environmental performance metrics through the AEG 1EARTH corporate social responsibility programme.
